Establishing a portfolio management capability for a top tier bank

Background

A top tier bank engaged CWC to create a new global portfolio management structure. This covered all “front-to-back” operations and product support across European, American and emerging markets businesses. The goal of the workstream was to create a central portfolio management change service to improve the change process and execution /delivery capability and project prioritisation process..

Approach

The first phase of the project was a full current state assessment reviewing capabilities, processes and infrastructure. The second phase covered the design of a framework to solve for the issues in the existing model, and to ensure future scalability as the client grew volume and complexity.

Deliverables

Our consultants designed and delivered a revised framework which aligned with the clients broader operating model and technology transformation. This allowed IT development and implementation in parallel with other IT projects.

The main deliverables were:

  • Current state assessment

  • A Revised vision, Target Operating Model and control process framework design

  • A comprehensive multi-stage, multi-location, detailed project prioritisation

  • Detailed IT requirements for supporting infrastructure

Impact

  • Effective implementation of a new global portfolio management structure. This covered all “front-to-back” operations and product support

  • Process re-engineering of key and critical processes in the portfolio management framework and tool set

  • Introduced the option for scalability on the new portfolio management tools and structures
